In 2005 we, the Davis family, moved to beautiful Weardale and bought the Black Bull Inn. We had noticed how few traditional pubs were left across Britain and so we decided to create our own.
We love it and we hope you do too.
We turned the clocks back to the1800's
and restored the pub to how it had once been......small cosy rooms, stone flagged floors,open fires with Victorian ranges, wooden beams, copper, brass, pewter and oak groaning with age.
The Weardale railway and Frosterley station are 39 steps from the front door. The railway runs to the main rail network at Bishop Auckland where connections to the whole country are provded.
Steam engines are run regularly on the line past the Black Bull making arrival at the Bull by steam a common event.
The Black Bull Inn is a family run pub and restaurant, the kitchen is carefully controlled by Head Chef Will Davis with his committed and caring team including his brother John, sister Jenny, Aunty Lynne, cousin Cailean and some of the talented chefs he has met on travels abroad.
The Front of House team is led by Charlie Scott. We source local raw ingredients as far as possible and pride ourselves on creating every dish in house providing fabulous fare presented to the table with love and care.
